Product Introduction:
Benzalkonium Chloride (BAC or BZK) is a quaternary ammonium cationic surfactant with the chemical formula [C₆H₅CH₂N(CH₃)₂R]Cl, where R represents an alkyl chain ranging from C₈ to C₁₈. It is widely used as a disinfectant, preservative, and antimicrobial agent, commonly found in medical hand sanitizers, wound cleansers, contact lens solutions, and household disinfectants. Its mechanism of action involves disrupting microbial cell membranes, causing cell content leakage and death, making it effective against bacteria, fungi, and some viruses. Benzalkonium Chloride is characterized by low toxicity, being colorless and odorless, and having good stability. However, at high concentrations, it may irritate the skin and mucous membranes. It should be diluted to recommended concentrations before use and avoided in combination with anionic surfactants to prevent reduced efficacy.
